Custom Fields

Custom Fields

Custom Fields let you add extra information to your member profiles. This way, you can capture specific details that aren't included in the standard member profile. There are two main types of Custom Fields:

  • Member Editable (User Fields): These fields appear on areas where members can update their information, such as new member registration forms, member profile edit pages, and even admin profile edit pages (for editing their own profile). You can also make these fields mandatory during registration or editing.
  • Admin Only Fields: These fields are only visible on admin profile edit pages and are not accessible to members.

Custom Fields vs. Dynamic Custom Fields

While Custom Fields are still available, they offer a more basic way to manage additional member data. You can add new custom fields and rename existing system fields.

Dynamic Custom Fields offer more flexibility and are recommended for most situations. They include all the functionalities of Custom Fields (adding and relabeling) with additional features:

  • Effortless field reordering: Easily rearrange fields within Dynamic Custom Fields.
  • Granular access control: Control who can edit each field (members or admins only).
  • Targeted field visibility: Show specific fields only to relevant member types, creating a more streamlined experience for your members.

Migrating Existing Fields

If you already have Custom Fields set up, you can migrate them to Dynamic Custom Fields for enhanced management capabilities. Please contact our support team for assistance with this process.

How to Rename Fields

  1. Click on "Custom Fields and Field Labels". (Unfortunately, we cannot provide specific instructions on navigating the Chamber Nation interface at this time)

How to Add/Remove Fields

  1. Entering a name in a field box activates it, making it visible in relevant locations like member profiles and reports. Leaving the box blank hides the field, but any entered data will still be stored.
  2. You can also require specific Member Editable fields to be filled in during registration or profile updates.

Types of Custom Fields

There are different types of Custom Fields available to capture various kinds of information:

  • Text Field: Limited to a single line of text (e.g., names, email addresses, phone numbers).
  • Indicator Fields: Indicate a yes/no, on/off, true/false state.
  • Selection Fields: Allow users to choose one option from a predefined list.
  • Multi-Selection Field: Similar to Selection Field but allows users to select multiple options.
  • Multiline Field: Allows users to enter multiple lines of text (e.g., descriptions, comments, addresses).
  • Admin Selection Fields: Selection fields that only appear on admin profile edit pages.
  • Date Fields: To collect date information from users.

Once you create a custom field, it will be available within the "Custom" tab on member profile pages.
